Meet David Rhoads
Founder, Owner, and President

david-rhoads-2010-100pxDavid was born in Springfield, Illinois in 1941. He lived for much of his youth in Texas before serving in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1966. In the late 1960s, David worked for Mallinckrodt Nuclear of St. Louis, Missouri. Then, for nearly two decades, he excelled in business management roles for Bechtel Corporation. A Bechtel job transfer brought David from Maryland to the Ann Arbor, Michigan area in 1972.

David’s extensive business experience helped him establish Homeowner Services of America (HSA) in 1985. Since then, David has been a regional leader of the home remodeling industry. He served for over a decade as Director and Chair of the Washtenaw Remodelors Council and Director of the Remodelors Council of Michigan. For two of those years, David was also Director and Treasurer of the State Chapter of the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA).

In 2001, David became a Director of the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Washtenaw County, now known as the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Ann Arbor (BRAGAA). He has served as the organization’s president, and is now recognized as a Local Life Director of BRAGAA in recognition of his ten years of service on the board.

David is an executive director of the Michigan Association of Home Builders (MAHB) and a director of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). He is also on the board of the Home Builders Foundation (HBF).

In 1997, David formed First Design Cabinetry, a companion business to HSA. Two years later, he moved both companies to their current headquarters in Saline, Michigan.

In 2011, David was named the Remodeler of the Year by the Michigan Association of Home Builders. The award recognizes David’s professional commitment and community involvement.


Community Involvement

In recent years, David Rhoads has been highly involved in the Saline community. He has been a Director of the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce, a facilitator for Saline Leadership Institute, Treasurer of the Coalition for a Quality Community (CQC), and a leader of the Pick Up the Pace, Saline! (PUPS) initiative.

David has been on Saline’s CARES Discretionary Fund Board, the Saline Business Development Association (BDA), the Saline Area Sustainability Circle, and the Saline Area Historical Society. David was elected to the City Council of Saline, Michigan in November 2006.

In 2004, the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce honored David Rhoads as Saline’s Citizen of the Year. The award recognized David’s exceptional contributions as a volunteer and leader in a wide range of charitable, service, and community improvement initiatives.

In 2010, David was honored by “Saline Salutes,” a program sponsored by the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce, as the 17th annual recipient of the George A. Anderson Vision Award. The award recognized David’s leadership and service to:
